We are unable to test against the 900+ chemicals listed for Prop 65 and to 100% certainty, and therefore, in an abundance of caution, we have placed the warning on our products to be in compliance with this California regulation. You will also see the Prop 65 warning on products that you buy outside of California, because we are unable to determine our products’ final retail destination.

It is a label area. You could write on it or stick a label on that removable sleeve. For an individual it likely wouldn't be used, but for a company who has more than one case, it allows them to label each case for quick identification and the fact it is removable allows them to switch the labels around if needed.
