Do you have questions on cases and inserts, but your not sure where to go?

This is a step by step tutorial hopefully answering some of your questions.

Measuring your item

  • Step 1
    • Start by measuring your item(s) because these measurements may help you narrow your case selection.
      • Measure your item starting with the length then width and last height all in inches.
      • It should look like this LxWxH.
      • Next for the length, width, and height add 2 extra inches for a general guide when choosing a case.
        • Example 5 x 5 x 5 = 7 x 7 x 7
      • If there is more than one item keep the general two inch border around the edges, but space the multiple items out with one inch spacing.

Choosing the right case

Choosing the right features

  • Step 3
    • Consider what features you want your case to have. Not all case lines carry everyone of these features.
      • Do you need locks?
      • Perhaps tilt wheels and extension handle?
      • Frame panel kit?
      • Dividers?
      • Removable lid?
      • How about a lid organizer?
      • Maybe labeling?
      • Lifetime guarantee?
      • Waterproof?

Choosing the right interior

  • Custom Interior - Custom Interiors use dies to fit any item perfectly in the foam.
    • Custom interiors are the absolute best way to fit an item safely into foam.
    • They are often used for transporting expensive equipment in a case.
    • Sometimes they are used for show purposes when you really want to impress people.
  • Pick and Pluck - Pick and Pluck often called "do it yourself foam" uses hundreds of small squares in the foam that you can remove yourself.
    • Pick and Pluck is ideal if you like to do things yourself.
    • You don't quite get the professional look as you do with custom interiors, however pick and pluck is very universal.
    • For small volume, pick and pluck is a good alternative to having it custom diecut.

  • Foam Lined - Foam Lined inserts consist of just that, "foam lined." A 1/2", 1", 1 1/2" or 2" thick layer of foam is glued to the entire inside of a case.
    • Foam Lined inserts are great if you have more than one item that you want to put in the same case, at different times.
    • Usually Foam Lined inserts are not used for extremely expensive items.
    • A foam lined cavity can be used for multiple non-fragile items.
    • Foam lining consists of Polyurethane or Polyethylene foam.
  • Foam Filled - Foam Filled inserts are layers of foam cut to fit the inside dimensions of the case.
    • Each layer can be cut separately to accept equipment of various sizes.
    • The case is filled with 1/2", 1", 1 1/2" or 2" layers of Polyurethane or Polyethylene foam.
    • The lid of the case is usually convoluted (egg crate)
  • Dividers - Made of Plastic, Metal, Composite, Vinyl, Wood, Foam or a Combination of Different Materials, dividers are a simple solution to separating almost any item.
    • Many photographers use dividers to separate all of their valuable equipment, however almost anyone can use them.
    • Dividers are very adjustable and can accommodate almost any piece of equipment.
    • Dividers can change as your equipment changes.
  • Flocked Foam - Flocked Foam is when a layer of colored material "Peach Cloth" is applied to the top of your custom foam insert.
    • Flocked foam is used for products or items that you want noticed.
    • Flocked Foam is all for appearance.
    • Flocked Foam comes in a variety of different colors.
